Tobacco, alcohol, unhealthy diet or sun exposure continue to cause millions of deaths around the world Despite advances in medicine and the means of early detection that have spread in recent years, cancer remains one of the main causes of mortality in the world . In Spain it is the second cause of death after cardiovascular diseases. According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), in 2020 alone, 9.9 million deaths occurred in the world as a result of this disease. According to this international Fax Lists organization, an increase in mortality is expected in the coming years, with the number of deaths estimated at more than 16 million in 2040. The report Cancer figures in Spain 2022 , recently published by the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM), according to calculations made by the Spanish Network of Cancer Registries (Redecan), indicates that during this year the 280,000 new cases of cancer in Spain , a particularly bad figure, not only in quantitative terms, but because, if met, it would represent an increase compared to last year, which ended with a figure slightly higher than 276,000 patients. The IARC, for its part, estimates that in Spain mortality from cancer will increase from 113,000 cases in 2020 to more than 160,000 in 2040. As with many diseases, our habits can affect whether we get cancer or not. In fact, as studies and doctors around the world point out, many cancers are associated with unhealthy habits . Leaving aside these habits can save our lives.
